Help me, oh great LJ brain!

My last boss was kind enough to provide me with a formal letter of reference that I could use during my job hunt. My question is: what do I do with it? Do I attach it along with my CV and cover letter? Bring it to interviews? Send it along later in the process? What?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
